A landmark in Karlov is the ruin of the Minorite monastery, which was founded by Tobias of Benešov in 1247. After its destruction by fire, a new monastery in High Gothic style was built. In 1420 the cloister burned down again, this time by the Hussite armies under the command of Jan Žižka. After being burned down again by the Swedish army in 1648, the monastery was never rebuilt. Another historic sight you can find on Karlov Hill is St. Nicholas Church and rectory which has one of Bohemia’s oldest gothic bells dating to the year 1322.
