Municipal Cemetery

Benešov cemetery is composed of an old- and new-graveyard. In both lie many famous people. For example, in the old graveyard there are buried members of Jesuits and the Piarist order. In the new graveyard is buried the leader of the Nazi-resistance Colonel Karel Volenecký. Another part of the graveyard is the Jewish graveyard, which was founded in 1883. Among the hundreds of more recent granite tombstones, you can find several stones brought from the destroyed 17th century graveyard. Here there is also a prayer room with an exhibition dedicated to the victims of the Second World War.
