Konopiště castle

This stop is the closest spot for the castle tour and the tour through the castle rose garden. The main promenade road heads off to the east; on the left is the Lobkowicz road, above it is a baroque fountain with a statue of Neptune - the ruler of the sea - imported from Catajo castle. On the left is an avenue of linden trees that leads to the castle. Here you have a choice of 3 different castle tours. The first tour takes in the south wing of the castle with its saloons, period furniture, historical paintings and porcelain. The second tour will show you the saloons of the north wing, where the oldest parts of the castle are with gothic and renaissance vaulting, St. Hubert’s chapel and the castle armoury. The third tour includes the private rooms of Franz Ferdinand d'Este. The south road slopes down steeply towards the castle rose gardens with its greenhouses for rare tropical plants. You can also see the pride of Konopiště, a rare Asian black bear called Jiří who lives in the dry moat.
